Air Transport in Bhubaneswar
There are two terminals in the Biju Patnaik Airport. The new terminal 1 was inaugurated recently in March 2013 to handle heavy traffic which can handle 30 million passengers per year. It was built with an estimate of 145 crore which is two storied, consists of 16 check-in counters, four elevators/escalators and covers a total area of 196, 300 sq ft. It is proposed to have amenities like spa, gift corners, book shops, food joints, handloom and handicraft stalls.
The Terminal 2 is the older of the two. It has been proposed that it would be upgraded soon to handle international flight operations. While the new terminal (1) will only be used for domestic operations, the Terminal 2 will deal in International operations, specially connecting to the countries of South-East Asia and the Middle East.
Currently the flights operate to and from these Indian cities- Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Visakhapatnam, Port Blair, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Lucknow and Patna.
