In Bhubaneswar, electricity is supplied by the State-operated Central Electricity Supply Utility of Odisha (CESU). The CESU takes care of the power transmission and also distributes electricity across the state of Odisha. Previously, the authentic license to operate in the state was guaranteed in 1999, by the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission under the provision of Odisha Electricity Reform Act, 1995 to the Central Electricity Supply Company of Odisha Ltd. But the license was revoked in 2005 and th management was shifted under the Central Electricity Supply Utility of Odisha scheme, 2006.
